Say Something

Image
I have been a teacher for almost 20 years.  In that time, I have taken many different trainings over many different topics.  Some trainings were (and are) annual trainings.  I don’t know how many times I’ve listened to the same video about Blood Borne Pathogens….teachers out there, if you know, you know.   One of the other training sessions I have sat through are the mandated reporter trainings.  I have a love-hate relationship with these trainings because as much as I hate the horrible scenarios that are presented and the warning signs that I should watch for, I am so glad to have this information because it could make a significant difference in the life a child, and there isn’t anything more important than to keep our kids safe.  The biggest tagline at the end of the training is “if you see something, say something.”  This is true also at the airport.  If you see shady business happening, my goodness, say something!  Don’t let those s...

Ode to Fall

Image
Fall… Autumn.... No-longer-Summer…. Whatever you call it, it’s my favorite season.  There is nothing like the brisk, cooler air that greets you in the morning as you leave for work.  It is as Maya Rudolph and Amy Poehler’s SNL characters say….“sweater weather.”  I’m digging out leggings and sweaters and boots, oh my!  Everything smells like cinnamon, pine and pumpkin spice.  Hot coffee and tea are my drinks of choice.  I am again making soups to enjoy and refreeze for another time.  And the piece de resistance….the leaves!  The vibrant reds and oranges of the maples and the bright yellows of the birch trees set the hills around my home ablaze and I am in awe every time I drive down the highway or along the backroads.   Fall is nature prepping for a time of rest, a time to be still and quiet.  And that is how I want to treat this fall and upcoming winter months, as a time to reset, hunker down, breathe.  I just can’t get ...

Today is Going to Be a Great Day!

Image
Imagine…you are having the best dream.  It’s fun, exciting, romantic, adventurous, (insert your own adjective here)!  You’re getting to the best part where all that fun, exciting romantic adventure is coming to a climax and….the alarm goes off, catapulting you back into the reality of dark, cold, and tired.  You look over at your alarm with your blurry eyes and let out a moan because it can’t be 6:00 already!!  Five more minutes, Mom!  You drag yourself out of bed and make your way to the kitchen where your coffee maker is already hard at work (thank goodness for timers on small appliances).  Now, you feed the dog, let him out, let him in, check on the cat, make your lunch for that day, fix some breakfast, check your email, check social media to see if anything worthwhile happened while you were asleep, maybe get to that daily devotion, take a shower, try and make yourself look presentable for the day, say goodbye to your hubs, and begin the commute to work...

Who Am I?

Image
Who is Heather R?  I am not AI generated.  I am an average person living in the Midwest.  I am married and I have one giant dog and a rag-tag kitty cat that came from the pound.  My day job is spent pouring into other people, so I guess that’s why I love sharing these tidbits of “light” with my readers.  I enjoy being outdoors spending time in the beautiful nature that is all around in the area that I live.  I would much rather be cold than hot, so anything over 85 degrees is way too hot, and my cold threshold has no limit. Since 2020, my life has been one crazy ride!  I have been met with some really amazing things as well as some really horrible things….loss, moving, new job opportunity, acting upon a long-time dream of living where we want to.  Through it all, I found strength in my faith as well as my village.  After moving to a completely different state, I lost what I discovered was one of the things that was most precious to me,...

Hello and Welcome!

Image
Hello, and welcome to “Little Bit of Light!!”  I’m so glad you decided to check this blog out!  Here, I hope that you will find a little nugget of something that will make you laugh, inspire you, or just leave you feeling a little happier.   Let’s face it, the last few years have been the pits.  Maybe, it hasn’t been all bad, but the internet is definitely a breeding ground for negativity and evil.  My intent is to spread a little love and plant a seed of good in you that may flourish.  Sometimes, that seed sprouting is instant and sometimes it takes its sweet time…and that’s ok.  It’s ok to wait!  (And, that’s coming from a person who does NOT wait well.) So, please stick around and look around a bit.  If you discover something that has done even the smallest ounce of good for you, please pass it along to someone else! It’s going to be a great day!
